The special issue intitled /New (?) //African communication environment/ 
is now available online at /Index.Comunicación/ Vol 3, nº 2.

This special issue presents an introduction together with 11 research 
articles, selected from all contribution submitted to the call launched 
by the Unesco Chair on Communication Research and Africa (Afri-Com) 
http://www.unescoafricom.es/, last February.

The idea of the publication was to provide a platform to exchange ideas 
and to discuss the role the media could play in the process of building 
democratic societies in Africa; as well as to provide a space for 
critical media studies, emphasizing the concept of popular culture for a 
broader and richer understanding of African public spheres. The set of 
articles published now are intended to contribute significantly to shed 
some light on how traditional and new media, along with alternative 
forms of media can play a key role on the continent.
