The University of Applied Sciences at the Universität der Bundeswehr München seeks to appoint the following professorship in the Department of Business Administration (B.A. Business and Journalism and M.A. Management and Media) as soon as possible:

W3 – Professorship for
International crises and conflict reporting

The incumbent shall play a crucial role in research and teaching within the field of subject. Based on developments and dynamics in the field of crisis and conflict reporting throughout all media, the main focus of this professorship is:

- potentials and consequences of international crisis and conflict reporting,
- studies of newsroom practices at the international level; specifically the development, testing and analysis of forms of reporting in crises and conflicts (e.g. in war journalism, conflict-sensitive journalism and peace journalism),
- innovative formats of transmission in crisis and conflict journalism at the international level,
- organization of the teaching newsroom and mentorship of practical journalism projects.

The candidate should be highly knowledgeable in the field of appointment and analyze it from a theoretical and empirical perspective within his/her research objective. It is expected that teaching will integrate practice and research dimensions. The successful candidate will be active in the Bachelor degree program “Business and Journalism“, the Master degree program “Management and Media“, as well as the interdisciplinary study program studium plus. We expect high engagement of all professorships in teaching, also in courses taught in English, willingness to acquire third-party funding and participation in academic self-administration.

For purposes of research and teaching, we offer a well-equipped newsroom at the institute of journalism, which enables newsroom research and teaching projects.

We are looking for a candidate who has at least five years of professional experience (three of which shall be outside the university environment) and research experience beyond a qualified dissertation. The candidate’s prior research should have a clear research profile demonstrated by relevant scientific publications in central areas of the field of appointment.

The Universität der Bundeswehr offers officer candidates and officers the opportunity of scientific study that leads to Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees by trimester system. The degrees are supplemented by interdisciplinary/professional training portion of the interdisciplinary study program studium plus.

Preconditions of employment and the legal duty positioning of professors follows the ”Bundesbeamtengesetz”. Employment as a “Beamte/r” requires that the candidate be no older than 50 at the date of appointment.
