Brunel University welcomes applications for a Chair / Reader in
Communications/Media Studies. The successful candidate will have an
outstanding research and publications profile and should demonstrate the
capacity or potential to secure externally-funded research grants. The
appointed person will make a substantial contribution to research in
Communications and Media Studies and will undertake teaching at
undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. An interest in digital and
internet research methods would be welcomed. The successful candidate
will help develop our Masters’ programmes in Media and Communications.
The Department of Sociology and Communications is broad-based, hosting
three research centres: the Centre for Culture, Media and Regulation
(CCMR), the Centre for Comedy Studies Research (CCSR) and the Centre for
Biomedicine and Society (CBAS). It currently has 13 permanent academic
staff. In the last research assessment exercise, 85% of its research was
deemed to be of international quality. The Department is part of the
School of Social Sciences, which also offers teaching and research
programmes in Anthropology, Economics, Finance, History, Politics and
Psychology.
The University has made significant investment in Sociology and
Communications and this post represents its continuing commitment to
supporting further development. The successful candidate will have the
opportunity to lead an already successful MSc and to develop the
Department’s strategy for the future.
