The Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS) will be launched in Toronto, Canada on Thursday, August 29. CMCS is a research and production centre that specializes in critical studies about media and celebrity culture. CMCS carries a pedagogical philosophy that inspires integration of research, production, and learning by academics, artists and public. The centre believes in intellectual, aesthetic, and ethical values of making media literacy skills accessible to a wide range of learners in studies and practices of popular culture. As well, the centre recognizes a reformed model of education that accommodates multiple learning styles in public spaces. Our Advisory Board includes international faculty members and creative practitioners in cross-disciplinary fields. We are committed to working with academic and cultural institutions to advance understanding of media culture and fame.
CMCS aims to:

   * Develop, coordinate and disseminate research, teaching, training,
     and creative arts productions in media and celebrity studies

   * Build international, national, and regional relations and networks
     in higher education and media industry

   * Advance cultural work through attendance and collaboration in
     cross-disciplinary settings

   * Facilitate academic and media partnerships in developing cultural
     productions and strengthen the creative industry sector

   * Develop and support lectures, conferences, workshops, seminars,
     gallery exhibits, performances, and mentorship to educate and
     guide academics and artists
   * Support academics, artists, and public with resources and
     effective mentorship
   * Publish and share creative productions in open-access formats for
     public

The launch event of CMCS will be taking place at the prestigious venue The Inner Garden (Suite 384) at 401 Richmond Street in Toronto, Canada.
