The Department of Media Studies, Section for Journalism, Media and
Communication at Stockholm University announces one (1) position as
Ph.D. student in Media and Communication Studies.

The Department of Media Studies is an international environment and
home to research on media, society and culture from a variety of
scholarly perspectives More information about the department is

This particular position is linked to the new research project
Cosmopolitanism from the Margins: Mediations of Expressivity, Social
Space and Cultural Citizenship, funded by the Swedish board of
sciences Vetenskapsrådet. In addition to being fluent in English, it
is essential that the applicant can speak one of the Scandinavian
languages (Swedish, Norwegian or Danish) to be able to conduct
research as part of the project. The project aims to study identity
formation and expressivity on the basis of several groups and
phenomena (such as urban explorations, street art and sexually
marginalized groups) as examples. Research data will be gathered
primarily via qualitative methods (e.g. interviews and diaries). The
doctoral thesis will be an integrated part of the research project.

Research education includes 240 ECTS credit points, including a
dissertation. The doctoral student is expected to perform a certain
amount of department work such as teaching. These duties may not
constitute more than 20 % of full work-time. The doctoral student is
expected to be involved in daily work at the department. The position
is limited to 4 years, but can be prolonged for up to one more year.


Prerequisites:

Qualified candidates for this position should hold a university degree
of 240 ECTS, of which at least 90 ECTS were awarded for courses at
advanced level and/or have a Master's degree in Media Studies, or
equivalent. For this position, knowledge of Scandinavian language is
an additional requirement.
