Media Education Research Section
IAMCR Conference 2013, Dublin, Ireland, June 25-29, 2013

Call for papers

The MER - Media Education Research Section - warmly accepts paper submissions for the next IAMCR conference to be held at the Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland, from 25 to 29 June, 2013. "Crises, 'Creative Destruction' and the Global Power and Communication Orders" is the overarching theme proposed to participants, which may be taken into account, when deciding the paper to present. The proposals may involve both individual papers and collective panels.

The Dublin Conference is an opportunity to promote the critical dimension of our research work. It will therefore be appreciated that the proposals go beyond the descriptive dimension. Comparative studies, dialogic approaches and pluralistic methodologies are welcome. At the same time, media education opens interesting possibilities for interaction with other sections, so researchers are hereby encouraged to submit proposals both for thematic tables and joint initiatives with other sections.

Different topics are suggested to the papers, such as media education in relation to:

· representations and coverage by media
· digital divide and inclusion projects and results
· experiences involving innovation and creativity
· news literacy in times of crisis
· media and information literacy (MIL) and curriculum developments
· media literacy, media policies and regulation
· media literacy education as a tool and field for intercultural communication
· approaches, experiences and results regarding educators education
· social networks, connectivity and creativity
· pedagogical and cultural work in the field of intercultural communication · European and international policies regarding media literacy education · social and economic development dimensions of media and digital literacy

The abstracts should define objectives, theoretical framework and methodological approach, as well as possible contributions for the advancement of knowledge in the field. As a length measure, each submission should have the reference of 400 words. All abstract submissions must be made via the OCS at http://iamcr-ocs.org, from 15 November 2012 to 28 January, 2013 (deadline). Early submission is strongly encouraged.

Take into account this overall IAMCR guideline: individuals may submit 1 abstract (paper) per Section or Working Group as lead author, and a maximum of 2 abstracts (papers) to a single IAMCR conference in general. Presenters are expected to bring fully developed work to the conference. Prior to the conference, it is expected that a completed paper will be submitted to Section, Working Group, Session Chairs, and/or Discussants. Decisions on acceptance of abstracts will be communicated to applicants no later than 28 February 2013.

Submission of completed papers via IAMCR Open Conference System (OCS) <http://iamcr-ocs.org> no later than May 28, 2013.

We strongly recommend you share this call for papers among researchers who you think may be interested in participating in the conference and to engage in the activities of the section and IAMCR.
