[ecrea] Big Data for Media Analysis Conference - Paris, 16 & 17 December 2013
Thu Dec 05 13:51:53 GMT 2013
Conference Announcement:
*Big Data for Media Analysis /
Analyser les médias a` partir de grands corpus de données numériques*
December 16th-17th, Paris
The Transmedia Observatory OT-Media (www.otmedia.fr
<http://www.otmedia.fr>) organizes a two-days international workshop in
Paris.
The conference will gather researchers and experts in the processing,
analysis, interpretation and visualization of data regarding the media.
On the first day, several platforms and tools for media analytics will
be presented and compared, looking for mutual strengths and potential
biases. The second day will focus on how social scientists and industry
experts use quantitative and qualitative methodologies to obtain
results. These are some of the questions that will be addressed: Who
produces information? How does information spread? What are the
relationships among the different channels (radio, tv, web)? What is the
role of the news agencies today? How do media landscapes evolve, and in
particular the French one? What is the impact of the media on public
policies?
The Transmedia Observatory (OT-Media) is a research project building a
large database on the French media and developing innovative tools for
data mining and visualization. More than 5 million documents have been
gathered since July 2011, from over 2,000 fluxes, including tv, radio,
web and AFP dispatches.
