[ecrea] European Media Policy No. 1, 2013 (May)
Tue May 28 14:13:07 GMT 2013
the No. 1, 2013 (May) issue of Nordicom’s newsletter European Media
Policy has been published.
Among the highlights:
- Media freedom and pluralism is currently a much-discussed issue in the
EU, not least in the Parliament. Recently the Commission launched two
consultations on this subject based on recent reports.
- The EU and the US have decided to start negotiations for a
comprehensive trade agreement. Which areas it should cover is currently
a hotly disputed issue. Film people and civil society groups are among
those wary of the new trade deal.
- The EU Commission has issued a Green Paper to open a public discussion
on the implications of the transformation of the audiovisual media
landscape. This may have an impact on the Audiovisual Media Services
Directive and other EU rules.
- The Commission recently launched a “structured stakeholder dialogue”
on copyright issues. Important stakeholders have voiced criticism,
especially against the dialogue's limited scope.
- The EU's data protection reform has sparked heavy lobbying in the EU
Parliament.
