[ecrea] New special issue in Information, Communication & Society: Transforming tensions: legacy media towards participation and collaboration
Wed Jul 11 23:47:03 GMT 2012
Today Volume 15:6 of /Information, Communication & Society/ was
published online, a special issue titled: /Transforming tensions: legacy
media towards participation and collaboration.
/The issue consists of 8 original articles focusing transforming
tensions regarding participation and collaboration, written by both
junior and senior scholars specialized in this area. Transforming
tensions are discussed in terms such as produsage, content-flow
structures, partnerships, production–consumption circuits as well as
inclusion level and inclusion distance. The special issue also shows the
value of researching intra-organizational tensions to grasp the
concurrent social shaping of legacy media. With many articles informing
on the salient case of journalism, one can conclude that legacy news
media are reluctant to relinquish all of their authority, ownership and
control to individuals wanting to engage in content creation. Legacy
news media are rooted in old ideologies and practices, which seem to
have guided their views on the new and challenging roads of participation.
