The Cultural Studies Program at George Mason University invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor, with a proven record of research and publication to teach in what is primarily a doctoral program (significant experience preferred), to start Fall 2012. In addition to the one upper-level undergraduate course we offer, Culture and Globalization, the successful candidate would be expected to teach at least one of our required doctoral courses (see http://culturalstudies.gmu.edu/curriculum.html for curriculum details); teach graduate seminars in his or her field of research; and sit on students' field and dissertation committees. Areas of specialization are open, but we have abiding needs in the areas of race and ethnicity, visual culture, and political economy. We encourage potential applicants to familiarize themselves with our doctoral curriculum before applying. A Ph.D. is required by start of appointment. All applications must be submitted by November
15th.

Applicants should have an active research agenda and strong record of publication that is global rather than regional in focus, that is concerned with global processes, theories of globalization, and the interactions between global and regional developments. Academic discipline is open. The Global Affairs program is an interdisciplinary academic program offering the BA and MA degrees. The undergraduate program began in 2005 and now enrolls more than 700 majors and minors. The graduate program began in 2010 and enrolls 50 MA students. Both programs continue to grow at a rapid pace. Teaching responsibilities will include leadership of the new (in 2011) undergraduate honors program, the capstone research course in the MA program, and other courses in the candidate's specialty. The teaching load is 2-2.
