The current worldwide crisis is transforming the financial, industrial and
manufacturing sectors in the world; causing many people to lose their jobs
and many families to suffer degradation of their well being. The impact of
these changes is profound and is expected to radically alter the future
relations among a number of political and economic powers. The US and China
will most likely be at the forefront of this debate, which may lead to
=E2=80=98adjustments=E2=80=99 on a world scale.



This conference attempts to assess the future of US-Chinese relations from =
a
number of inter-related perspectives. An underlying assumption being that a
gradual change in economic and financial power will also lead to changes in
=E2=80=98soft=E2=80=99 power like media communication, public relations, pu=
blic opinion,
public diplomacy and (new and old) media consumption.



It promises to become an interesting and diverse conference with lots of
excellent papers and panels, and time for social activities and networking.



Among the highlights will be the opening ceremony with Massachusetts State
Senator Stan Rosenberg, keynotes by Prof. Junhao Hong (University at
Buffalo), Prof. Xiong Chengyu (Tsinghua University), Prof. Boonlert
Supadhiloke (Bangkok University), special sessions on =E2=80=9CSpecial pers=
pectives
on US communication policies=E2=80=99, =E2=80=98The future of PR in the US =
and China=E2=80=99,

The conference is jointly organized by the School of Journalism and
Information Communication at the  Huazhong University of Science and
Technology, Wuhan; The Department of Media and Communication at the City
University of Hong Kong; and the SBS Center Communication for Sustainable
Social Change at The University of Massachusetts Amherst.
