Full (W3) Professorship for Media Studies with particular focus on the theory, history and aesthetics of visual documentary forms
The Media Studies Institute at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, has a vacancy starting October 1, 2012 for a W3 Media Studies professorship with particular focus on the theory, history and aesthetics of visual documentary forms.
The professorship is responsible for research and teaching in the area of MediaStudies with particular focus on visual documentary forms. The research focus should be the increasing importance of visual documentary forms in the production of knowledge, in popular media, art and economics. In this context, a special emphasis should be given to media-theoretical approaches to the complex relationships between technical innovation, the aesthetics of visual documentary forms and social processes. An active contribution to two research areas of the Faculty of Philology: „Anthropological Knowledge: Representations and Techniques“ and „Representation in the Light of Media Transitions“ is expected. Teaching is required in the B.A.- and M.A.-programs „Media Studies“ and the international M.A. program „Film and Audiovisual Media“.
General requirements:
Positively evaluated Junior Professorship, habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements as well as pedagogical suitability and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration.
Additional requirements include the willingness do engage in interdisciplinary scientific work, participation in the research specializations of the Faculty of Philology, didactic expertise at the university level and a dedication to teaching as well as the readiness and ability to acquire outside research funding.
