[ecrea] Opportunities for part-time teaching in Journalism and Media at Birkbeck

The Department of Media and Cultural Studies at Birkbeck, University of London is currently looking for a number of part-time, one-year fixed term sessional lecturers to teach on our Certificate of Higher Education in Journalism, BA Journalism and Media and MA Journalism beginning in October 2011.

This opportunity would suit: post-doc and PhD researchers specialising in theoretical perspectives on journalism or media and technology; or established practitioners in the case of journalistic and applied digital media modules. Teaching experience is required as well as a good knowledge of and engagement with the broader contexts in which journalism operates. There are number of modules for which we require sessional lecturers and more than one module could be undertaken by the same person depending on areas of expertise. The modules range from level 4 (first year undergraduate) to 7 (postgraduate); most classes are two hours per week and are taught in central London on weekday evenings.

· Government and Ethics for Journalists (Level 4 one term module due to run from October 2011)

· Alternative and Activist Media (Level 4 one term module due to run from January 2012)

· Journalism and Politics (Level 5 two term module due to run from October 2011)

· News around the World (Level 5 one term module due to run from April 2012)

· Globalisation and Media Culture (Level 6 one term module due to run from October 2011)

· Principles of Layout and Design (Level 6 one term module due to run from January 2012)

· Advanced Sub-Editing and Layout (Level 7 intensive session due to run from April 2012)

· Web-based Journalism (Level 7 two term module due to run from October 2011)
