This workshop will debate strategies for engaging overseas citizens and 
publics, the challenges involved in ‘the art of intercultural dialogue’ 
(especially listening), and the adequacy of the methods and social 
listening tools currently available and in use for evaluating digital 
diplomacy initiatives. It will bring together researchers and 
practitioners working in the fields of diplomacy, international media 
and broadcasting and academia to identify best practice for operating in 
a multidimensional environment and contribute to policy debate.

The workshop is the first in a series of four that will take place over 
the coming year aimed at enabling greater knowledge exchange across 
organizations about the challenges of communicating across cultural and 
linguistic boundaries and mediating diplomacy.

*The workshop will be followed by a wine reception (5-7pm) to celebrate 
the launch of a volume that addresses issues and practices of cultural 
diplomacy, co-edited by the organisers, entitled /Drama for Development: 
Cultural Translation and Social Change/ (Sage, India) *
