We would be interested in applications from UK and EU candidates for the =
following studentship.

Ph D Studentship:  Re-thinking Schools for the 21st Century

The Education and Social Research Institute (ESRI) at Manchester =
Metropolitan University invites applications for a fully funded PhD =
studentship (fees + =A312,000 p.a. stipend) to work with researchers in =
the Centre for Social Justice in the City and the Centre for Research in =
Education Technology. The studentship will contribute to the combined =
research of the centres in re-thinking schools for the 21st century as =
key agencies of civic society.

The studentship will focus, in particular, on understanding changes in =
relationships between schools and their communities. It will involve =
in-depth qualitative ethnographic studies of school governance, =
pedagogy, curriculum and relationships to the community in two schools =96=
 a co-operative trust and private enterprise-led academy.
