Culture Unbound: Journal of Current Cultural
research is an open access e-journal that seeks
to be a forum for contemporary, cutting edge
cultural research from a wide range of
disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas.
Culture Unbound has just published a new
thematic section entitled ?Literary Public
Spheres?, edited by Torbjörn Forslid and Anders Ohlsson.
In today?s literary public sphere, different
artistic and commercial interests converge.
Dissolution of genres and transgression of
borders has become the rule, rather than the
exception. The objective of this thematic
section on ?Literary Public Spheres? is to
broaden the scope of literary studies by
exploring how both writers and readers employ
literature for a variety of purposes in a wide
range of public settings. It considers the
public conversation about literature, as a
crucial part of literature itself and explores
how literary texts become the subject of debate,
negation or dialogue centred on contemporary
values and opinions of popular concern.
This overarching theme covers a wide field of
more specific scholarly perspectives that
explore literature?s shifting role in different
public spheres, past as well as present.
Subjects include the press of 18th century
Scandinavia, Postsoviet educational policy,
historical lexicography, the visual performance
of authorship, the role of the essayist and the
mechanisms of present day book blogging, while
the theoretical perspectives range from Jürgen Habermas to Friedrich Kittler.
