Mediated Climate Change in an Uncertain World

The =E2=80=98Mediated Climate Change in an Uncertain World=E2=80=99 event i=
s part of a set of launch initiatives associated with the Climate Change, S=
ustainability and Environment Network (CCES). We will also have a panel at =
the forthcoming MeCCSA conference at Salford University, Manchester in Janu=
ary 2001, and are planning a symposium at Bournemouth University on 4th Mar=
ch 2011 (=E2=80=98Mediating Environmental Change: Exploring the Way Forward=
=E2=80=99).
The =E2=80=98Mediated Climate Change in an Uncertain World=E2=80=99 seminar=
will be a free and informal affair, starting mid-morning. It will involve =
talks from an academic (Dr Neil Gavin, the CCES Convenor), a documentary fi=
lm maker and campaigning activist in the field of climate change (Emily Jam=
es), and a journalist and blogger who writes in this domain (Graham Wayne).=
But this will be the preamble to full and open discussion.
There are a number of objectives for this event. We will explore current re=
search themes in the area of mediated climate change, and look at the relat=
ionship between the work of the scholarly community, and stakeholders and p=
ractitioners in the area. We also want to look at the challenges faced by t=
hose who write, broadcast and blog in this domain, and their sense of the l=
ikely future opportunities to get the issues across. Finally, we will be ex=
ploring how the CCSE might develop in future.

Climate Change, Environment and Sustainability Network (CCES)
The CCES was established to draw together scholars practitioners and stakeh=
olders, interested in the mediation of climate change. Its aims and objecti=
ves are outlined on the CCES's MeCCSA webpage (http://www.meccsa.org.uk/cli=
mate-change-network/). These include engaging with policy-makers, practitio=
ners and those teaching in this area in FE and HE, as well as facilitating =
research communication and collaboration. A sense of current plans and init=
