Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is David Cain, and I am part of the
regional contact point (FrameworksNW) for
Framework 7 (FP7) activity in the North West of
England. FP7 is Europe?s main mechanism for
funding ambitious collaborative R&D. The EU will
fund up to 75% of costs for SME Industry (Small
& medium Enterprises) or HEIs to be involved in R&D projects.
The FrameworksNW project is fully funded by the
NWDA (Regional Development Agency), and as such
our services can be offered for free. One such
service we offer is to help find European
partners for projects under development.
One of our clients is putting together a project
proposal based around Young people and science.
The objective of the project is to expand an
educational outreach programme (using a
travelling roadshow of an 11m rocket, audio
visual presentations and building workshops)
across Europe to engage with as many young
people as possible. The overall aim is to bring
about a change in the way science is taught in
schools around Europe to increase the numbers of
young people taking up careers in science and
technology. I have attached a brief flyer for further information.
The deadline for the proposal to be submitted is
24th July 2008 and as such I would be very
grateful if you could disseminate this message
to any suitable organisations you believe may be
interested in joining this project.

Frameworks 7 activity 5.2.2 Young people and science
Company overview
Starchaser Industries (Starchaser) is a privately
held, high technology company involved in the
development, operation and commercialisation of
rocketry related products and services.
Starchaser also operates an innovative
educational outreach programme that has an
established track record in promoting science,
engineering and technology to young people from all backgrounds.
Starchaser annually connects with over 150,000
children across the length and breadth of the
United Kingdom, where the organisation?s prime
objective is to ?enthuse and inspire the next
generation of scientists, engineers and astronauts?.
Centrepiece to this successful programme, which
has been running for 6 years, are real full sized
rocketships that are taken to schools and other
host venues. These rockets are offered alongside
a range of presentations and interactive
workshops to create a truly unique, learning experience.
Starchaser Rocket Road Show
Starchaser is proposing to expand its educational
outreach programme across mainland Europe in
order to engage with as many young people as possible.
This new initiative will take the form of a
travelling road show where Starchaser will take
its 11 metre Nova 1 rocket (images appended) to
schools and other public venues in every EU
Member State. Stunning AV presentations and model
rocket building workshops will also be held.
The aim will be to visit no less than 300 schools
during the two year project, which will be
specifically directed towards raising the general
level of scientific literacy in more than 500,000
young people. Youngsters will also be encouraged
to consider science education at higher levels
and also in terms of a viable and exciting career path.
Key to making the road show a success will be
collaborative partnerships with educational host
venues in each of the 27 European States. These
Partner Organisations will usually be the Physics
Departments of prominent EU Universities and will
serve as a hub for the Starchaser team whilst
operating within a given country. The Partner
Organisations will assist particularly with
regards to planning, administration and the
translation of printed materials and will also
ensure the smooth integration of the Road Show
into each of their respective cultures.
The Starchaser Rocket Road Show will run for two
years beginning January 2009 and will cost a total of ?1,596,695.
