Wed Jul 02 12:39:40 GMT 2008

Lecturers in Gender Studies and/or Cultural Studies (Two positions)
School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry
Faculty of Arts
University of Sydney

Reference No. 133403

Applications are invited for two Lectureships at Level B in the
Department of Gender and Cultural Studies within the School of
Philosophical and Historical Inquiry. The Department has a vibrant
interdisciplinary research culture and a reputation for excellence at
all levels of teaching. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate
education and training in the interdisciplinary fields of Gender Studies
and Cultural Studies. Both positions are continuing; one is full-time
and one is fractional (0.6).

The department is seeking applicants who can demonstrate excellence or
outstanding promise in both research and teaching within the areas of
Gender Studies and/or Cultural Studies. We are particularly interested
in appointing candidates who specialise in feminist philosophy and
theory, masculinity, or gender or cultural studies approaches to
violence, community, politics or sociality. It may be an advantage to
specialise in more than one of these areas. The appointee will be
expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate units of study and to
supervise Honours and postgraduate research in relevant fields. In
addition, they will be expected to pursue an active research program,
participate fully in the Department's research culture and undertake
appropriate administrative roles and curriculum development as required.
Administrative experience within a humanities and/or social science
department may be an advantage.

Applicants must have a doctorate in Gender Studies, Cultural Studies or
a related field. They must be able to provide evidence of research
publication and current research activity in their field. Experience in
teaching at undergraduate level and ability to contribute to more than
one area of departmental teaching are essential, although applicants who
specialise in only Gender Studies or Cultural Studies areas are welcome
to apply. Applicants must also have excellent communication skills and a
commitment to teamwork in curriculum development and other areas of
administration. Experience in the supervision of research students,
experience teaching postgraduate coursework and experience in and
commitment to online learning and teaching are also desirable.

The first position is full-time and continuing, subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. The
second position is fractional (.6) and continuing, subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition
of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: $86,731 - $102,993 p.a. (or .6 thereof), which
includes a base salary Lecturer Level B $73,289 - $87,030 p.a., leave
loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation.
