Project title and description: *An anthropology of water catchment areas*

Water is approached as a historical, cultural, and material actor in Irish catchments, situated within Anthropocene debates. This interdisciplinary project bridges anthropology, communication studies, and STS to investigate public participation in water governance across the Liffey and Rye catchments (Dublin, Kildare, Meath). Through ethnographic and participatory methods, the research explores how scientific, bureaucratic, and local knowledges interact in anticipatory governance, focusing on co-design, citizen science, and deliberation as sites of environmental justice. Aligned with the EPA’s Catchment Communities initiative, the candidate will help co-produce tools and protocols for citizen-led water quality monitoring under the Water Framework Directive, critically examining ethics, collaboration, and socio-ecological futures in a climate emergency.

Applicants are invited to submit:

·A 2,000-word research proposal

·A brief CV detailing academic qualifications and professional experience to date.

·A personal statement (personal statement guidelines are provided here: https://www.dcu.ie/registry/personal-statement-guidelines <https://www.dcu.ie/registry/personal-statement-guidelines>)
