Senior Research Associate (Fixed-term for 24 months)

Salary on appointment will be £38,249 per annum, with an annual
increment up to £45,413 per annum.
The Centre for Competition Policy (CCP) at the University of East Anglia
seeks an experienced Senior Research Associate (post-doc) to contribute
to research on the implications for society, especially risks of harm,
of technological developments and innovation in digital services. You
will contribute to policy focused studies and at least one ongoing
technical assistance project in this area, working in a
multi-disciplinary team of scholars working on issues covered by the
EU’s Digital Services and Digital Markets Acts, and UK regulation of
digital services and markets. You will have the opportunity to
collaborate with fellow CCP colleagues and the wider CCP research
community on additional projects within the school, including on your
initiative.
You will contribute to a project that is systematically identifying,
tracking, and assessing both recently adopted and emerging
technologies—such as platform infrastructure and AI-driven tools, to
evaluate their impact on platform functionalities and potential systemic
risks. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of researchers
on a variety of cutting-edge methodologies and data sources and
contribute to producing a variety of types of research outputs, such as
evaluative reports and policy documents. You will gain experience in
project management, working with multi-national teams, and engaging with
policy stakeholders.
You will be an experienced professional researcher and subject
specialist, drawing upon knowledge gained from postgraduate research in
socio-technical or critical technology studies, information systems,
communications policy, digital markets, or similar fields. You will be
line managed by more experienced members of CCP and the Principal
Investigator. You will be expected to have a degree of research
responsibility an amount of academic initiative on the project.
You will have a relevant postgraduate level qualification, equivalent
qualification or experience in a relevant research area and will also
have experience of independent research. You will have strong
interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to analyse and
interpret data and work effectively as part of a team. Advanced skills
directly relating to this research area would be advantageous.
This full-time post is available from 10 March 2025 on a fixed term
basis for up to 24 months.
