*Two Faculty Positions, Open Rank, Communication & Media Science*

The Department of Communication and Journalism in the College of Arts
and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for two
tenure/tenure-track positions, one at the level of Assistant Professor
(tenure-track) and one at the level of Associate Professor (tenured) or
– Professor (tenured). Successful candidates will be expected to
publish, seek grant opportunities, teach undergraduate and/or graduate
courses, and engage in service activities. Both members will join our
new /Communication & Media Science Division/, each with a research focus
on the impacts of new and emerging media and information technology on
society. Both positions are full-time, 9-month academic appointments,
with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025.
Ideal candidates will have a robust research agenda focused on the
impacts of new and emerging media and information technology on
meaningful societal outcomes. Areas of interest may include those driven
by technological innovations, such as digital and computational
communication, misinformation and disinformation, digital ethics,
algorithmic bias, and the influence of artificial intelligence on media
practices, as well as those arising from social shifts, such as
post-truth communication, networked publics, platformization, and the
mediatization of society. We are particularly interested in research
that addresses pressing social issues, including those that reinforce
the department's strengths in political, health, organizational, and/or
science communication and journalism. Scholars with expertise in using
innovative empirical methodologies to study these topics, including big
data analytics, computational social science, and experimental research,
are encouraged to apply. This position offers an exciting opportunity to
contribute to and shape the research landscape within our new
Communication & Media Science Division, which will begin admitting
doctoral students in fall 2025 into a program with expanded and advanced
science training.
The Department of Communication and Journalism administers BA and BS
degrees in the fields of communication, media, and journalism, and we
offer PhD and MA degrees in Communication. We have over 40 faculty
members, more than 35 communication graduate students, and approximately
1,700 undergraduate students. The department promotes a welcoming and
supportive workplace and is organized into three broad research and
curricular divisions: /Communication & Media Science/, /Humanities &

Journalism Program. We welcome candidates at the rank of Assistant
Professor (tenure-track), Associate Professor (tenured), or Professor
(tenured). These full-time, 9-month academic appointments have an
anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will
be expected to publish, seek grant opportunities, teach undergraduate
and graduate courses, and engage in service activities. Preferred
candidates will also build on research strengths in our other divisions,
including public and civic engagement and the interplay between culture,
media, technology, and society. As a new program, we also welcome senior
faculty interested in taking leadership roles in the growth of
Journalism at Texas A&M University.
As part of a university-wide initiative to expand journalism research
and education, the Department of Communication and Journalism recently
launched its Journalism and Media Practices Division and began enrolling
majors into new BA and BS Journalism degrees in fall 2023. The
/Journalism & Media Practices /division is being developed alongside two
other divisions: /Communication & Media Science /and the /Humanities &
Critical/Cultural Studies/. Together, these three divisions foster a
multidisciplinary approach to addressing critical societal issues
through scholarship and teaching.
Through these two new journalism positions, we seek to recruit
journalism scholars with demonstrated records of peer-reviewed research
and excellence in teaching who can contribute to advancing the study of
contemporary journalism. We are particularly interested in candidates
whose research engages with current and emerging topics such as digital
journalism, data journalism, media ethics, misinformation, the role of
artificial intelligence in news production, the impact of social media
on journalism, and the challenges of reporting in diverse and polarized
environments.
Successful candidates will join a dynamic, welcoming and supportive
department committed to shaping the future of journalism and
contributing to the public good through innovative research and
teaching. Our Journalism division seeks both scholarly excellence and
