*Postdoctoral fellowship in News Translation at the University of the
Free State, South Africa
The University of the Free State welcomes applications from prospective
candidates for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in *News Translation
*at the University of the Free State, South Africa. The postdoc will
participate in an international project funded by the Swiss National
Research Foundation and the South African National Research Foundation.
The principal investigators are Prof Lucile Davier (University of
Geneva) and Dr Marlie van Rooyen (UFS), with the topic of the project
being /“South-North flows of information through translation in the
global news agency AFP”. /The UFS postdoctoral fellow will be based in
Bloemfontein and supervised by Marlie van Rooyen.
The requirements are, among others, that the successful candidate

must have completed postgraduate qualification(s) from a
Historically Disadvantaged University;
*
must have graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline
within the last five years. Relevant disciplines: Translation
Studies with research focused on the translation of news; or any
other related discipline with research focused on news and language;
*
may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship;
*
must have a strong socio-political knowledge of Africa;
*
must be fluent in at least English and French.
Annual salary: ZAR 300 000 (South African rand)
