Job — Assistant Professor of Fashion Media at SMU

The Division of Journalism seeks candidates for a tenure-track position to teach in the division's popular Fashion Media program beginning August 2024. The successful candidate will join the division at an exciting period of expansion and innovation, and our new colleague will play a key role in shaping the curriculum and reimagining the program. As such, the successful candidate must have appropriate research and/or creative output for a tenure-track position and be an engaged teacher and mentor. The typical teaching load for this position is 2/3.

Specifically, we seek candidates with an interest in fashion and creative processes, ideally with a background in fashion history, fashion design and/or trend forecasting. Candidates who also have experience in media production (e.g., journalism, advertising, social, exhibition catalogs) are encouraged to apply.

While an appointment at the rank of assistant professor is anticipated, extraordinary candidates at all levels will be considered.

*Minimum Qualifications: ***

  * Master's degree in a fashion-, communication- or journalism-related
    field required; A terminal degree (MFA/Ph.D.) preferred but not
    required.
  * Ability to conduct research or creative endeavors at a nationally or
    internationally recognized level
  * Ability to teach classes in fashion history, fashion design and
    fashion business

We're especially interested in hearing from applicants who have:

  * Prior collegiate-level teaching experience;
  * A background in or knowledge of media production; and/or
  * A background or interest in fashion from marginalized or
    underrepresented groups.
