 Description: The Humanities Department at Columbia College invites 
applications for a full-time, position in Communication Studies at the 
Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Instructor (non-tenure track) rank 
for the Fall 2024 semester (9-month contract). Be a part of a dedicated, 
dynamic, and well-respected faculty who support innovation, creativity, 
and a strong dedication to academic excellence.  Teaching, professional 
development, and service are all required aspects of the position. 
Faculty ordinarily teach 24 credit hours or their equivalent per 
academic year. Teaching responsibilities will include upper-level 
electives in communication theory, intercultural communication, 
interpersonal communication, and social media--as well as courses in the 
general education curriculum such as introduction to speech, and 
introduction to human communication. Online instruction may be part of 
the teaching load.
 Columbia College is known for its small class sizes, which enrich 
teaching and mentoring experiences. Funding for conference attendance 
and other professional development activities is provided on an annual 
basis. We highly value strong interpersonal skills, cultural humility, 
and a demonstrated ability to make positive contributions to the College 
community.
 Faculty also hold important service roles at Columbia College--in 
admission and recruiting events, academic advising, curriculum 
development, academic assessment, and collaboration across instructional 
venues. They participate in the Faculty Association and its committees, 
and support co-curricular activities. The salary offered is competitive 
and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
 Qualifications: A PhD in Communication Studies or a closely related 
field at time of appointment is preferred and would qualify the 
candidate for a tenure-track position, rank based on experience. A 
Master's degree in Communication Studies or a closely related field is 
required if the candidate does not possess the PhD as indicated above. 
The ideal candidate will possess experience demonstrating effective 
student-centered teaching strategies which enhance the success of 
diverse learners in multiple learning environments, and show potential 
for quality curriculum development. Preference will be given to 
candidates with teaching experience at the collegiate level. Candidates 
who reflect the diversity of the College's student population and
