About the role

Staffordshire University is a leading Games University in the UK, with an exciting portfolio of courses, comprising a range of highly successful undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered on-campus.

Our CGI and Visual Effects degree is optimised for students wishing to learn the creative and technical skills required to produce special visual effects. You would be joining a team of over 60 specialist academics within the department across the fields of games art, concept art, animation, programming, games design, esports and more.

The course has a long-standing reputation in industry, with graduates securing careers across film, television, games and advertising. The course is recognised by SideFX as a certified Houdini training institution. We take pride in teaching our students to the highest standards of visual effects, both in the software skills such as Nuke or Houdini, but also in filmmaking and pipeline tool development.

Our students enjoy access to top-tier facilities, including a 24-camera motion capture stage, digital cinema cameras (and associated grip and lighting), VPN access to all required software for their use off site. We also have a dedicated team of technical instructors who specialise in the teaching of equipment and software across cameras, recording studios, scanning facilities and more.

The University is ideally positioned in the centre of Stoke-on-Trent, alongside the mainline railway station which offers direct links to both hubs of the creative industries – Manchester and London - right from the doorstep.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate, and talented candidate to join the Animation and Visual Effects teaching team.

We are looking for experienced candidates in VFX who have demonstrable excellence in several VFX skills ideally including some of the following:

    Matchmoving and Layout
    Photogrammetry
    Compositing in Nuke
    HDR Panorama creation
    3D Asset Creation in Maya or Houdini

Additional Desirable Skills and Experience:

    Teaching in a Further or Higher Education setting
    Dynamics and simulation in Houdini
    Pymel / python / HOM scripting
    On set work e.g., VFX Supervision, Shoot TD, DIT, etc

In addition to developing and delivering outstanding teaching and learning you will be expected to engage with research and enterprise activity. We are particularly keen to recruit research active academics who can help to shape and develop the research profile of the area. You will also be expected to contribute to engagement with schools, colleges, and recruitment activities.
