The University wishes to recruit a Research Fellow for the AHRC-funded
research project ‘Liberating Histories: Women’s Movement Magazines,
Media Activism and Periodical Pedagogies’, led by Northumbria
University. The successful applicant will undertake research into
feminist print activism in the UK from the beginnings of the Women’s
Liberation Movement in 1968 to the present day. They will contribute to
a research monograph, a special issue on media activism, and workshops
for teachers and students; they will also help to co-ordinate the
project’s public engagement events, website and social media profile.
Main Duties and Accountabilities
1. To undertake research as appropriate to the field of study. The
responsibilities may include all or some of the following:
· Developing research objectives, projects and proposals
· Conducting literature reviews
· Exploring physical and digital archives
· Conducting interviews with community stakeholders
· Supporting the project’s web and social media presence
· Developing productive working relationships with colleagues
· Conducting individual and collaborative research projects
· Assessing, interpreting and evaluating outcomes of research
· Applying and adapting knowledge acquired from scholarship to
research and appropriate external activities
· Developing new concepts and ideas to extend intellectual
understanding
· Writing or contributing to publications or disseminating
research findings using media appropriate to the discipline
· Preparing, attending and participating in regular meetings of
the whole project group
· Making presentations at conferences or exhibiting work at other
appropriate events
· Resolving problems of meeting research objectives and deadlines
· Developing ideas for generating income and promoting research area
· Identifying sources of funding and contributing to the process
of securing funds
2. To communicate complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited
knowledge, as well as to peers, using high level skills and a range of
media.
3. As determined by the nature of the project and at the direction
of the PI/Co-Is, to plan, co-ordinate and implement research programme
activity including:
· Managing the use of research resources and ensuring that
effective use is made of them
· Monitoring and reporting on the use of research budgets
· Helping to plan and implement commercial and consultancy activities
· Where appropriate, to plan and manage own consultancy assignments
