residency is to offer independent researchers, academics,
philosophers, screenwriters, playwrights and other thinkers a space
where they can devote themselves to academic, political or philosophical
literary production and to intellectual research. The International
Studies for Sicily’s (SIS) fundamental role is to facilitate the
individual research of each resident in relation to the region and the
residents’ participation in a transdisciplinary and transnational program.
Each year, SIS organises several Independent Residencies and Thematic
Residencies, during which writers from every field and origin engage in
the production of their own individual research based on a common
theme, creating exchange and extending dialogue with
other residents, with the region of Palermo and with their
respective intellectual networks. Media and communication studies
scholars are particularly welcome.
SIS is an independent research institute, with an annual research
program developed with the aim of collaborating with public and
private institutions in Palermo and local and international research
centres. Intellectual and human connections developed during the
residency will help broaden existing intellectual networks and build
new ties, both on a local and a transnational level.
The program provides access to basic technical support for the
organisation of events such as symposia, debates, seminars and other
forms of public presentations, as well as the publication of the
/Quaderni di SIS - SIS Field Notes. /
SIS is at once a physical place and a virtual research network, through
which to engage in the present armed with critical thought
and political imagination.
