The Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University is one
of the largest of its kind in the world and has a global reputation for
combining research and teaching practice.
As a Lecturer in Multimedia Journalism, your focus will be on journalism
and communication, its theory and practice. You will be primarily
involved in the development of learning and teaching in the area of
multimedia journalism, both undergraduate and postgraduate, with
consideration for the successful candidate’s areas of expertise.
Teaching responsibilities may involve unit leadership or input on one or
more of the following units depending on expertise: Immersive &
Interactive Storytelling, Broadcast Journalism, Audio Journalism,
Dissertations, and Major Multimedia Project. Candidates with expertise
in data journalism and use of emerging digital technologies in
journalism are particularly welcome. You will bring a strong academic
profile to bear on practical learning and research-led teaching,
combined with an ability to innovate. You will be provided with a
balanced workload, which takes account of research and professional
practice.
You will be a team player who will primarily be involved with the
teaching teams on the BA (Hons) Multimedia Journalism and MA Multimedia
Journalism, but may be asked to contribute to other programmes in the
department. You will be enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy. You
will be willing to engage in leadership at unit level, as well as
performing the duties of an academic advisor. You will contribute to
employability and professional engagement with relevant internal and
external organisations as appropriate, at a regional, national and
international level. You will be expected to demonstrate an emerging
body of published work, with a research plan for the short to medium
term, and willingness to participate fully in developing the research
environment in the Faculty.
You will be qualified to Doctorate level or be able to demonstrate the
ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level and
the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum
of 3-5 years from the date of appointment. You will be research active
and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous
improvement.
Applications for fractional appointments will be considered.
