*Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Communication (Health and
Intercultural Communication)*

The Department of Communication and Media Studies in the College of Arts
and Sciences at North Central College seeks to hire a communication
generalist with expertise in health and intercultural communication as a
tenure-track assistant professor to begin work August 1, 2020. We are
particularly interested in applicants whose research explores the
intersections of race, ethnicity and/or cultural difference with health
communication. A Ph.D. in communication or a closely-related field is
preferred, although strong candidates who are ABD will be considered.
Applicants should demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate
teaching, mentoring, service and scholarship.
The person hired for this position will teach at least two sections of
public speaking for first-year students per year as well as other
introductory-level communication courses and will be expected to develop
upper-level courses in his/her/their areas of specialization. Ability to
teach courses in group communication, interpersonal communication,
global media and social media/digital communication will be a plus.
The standard annual teaching load for tenure-track faculty at North
Central is 20 credit hours. All faculty at the college have an
opportunity to teach in our undergraduate interdisciplinary programs
(Gender and Sexuality Studies, Environmental Studies, Film and Screen
Studies, Leadership, Ethics and Values and Chicago Area Studies) as well
as in our graduate Masters of Liberal Studies program.
Founded in 1861, North Central College is a selective, comprehensive
liberal arts institution of about 3000 students, located 28 miles west
of Chicago in Naperville, IL. The college is within walking distance of
the Naperville Metra station and downtown Naperville. The Naperville
