Assistant Professor in Cinema and Media Studies

The Department of Comparative Literature, Cinema and Media seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant

Professor in cinema and media studies whose research and teaching focus on new media, broadly defined.

This position may involve specialization in animation, digital media, game studies, global media

practices, and/or immersive media as well as work with gender, queer, and/or critical race theory.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in film or media studies, or in a closely related

field, and demonstrate strong facility in historical, theoretical, and humanistic approaches. A public

institution, the University of Washington seeks candidates who are able to work effectively with diverse

student and community populations. This position will involve excellence in research and teaching on

every level, from introductory large-lecture classes in cinema and media studies to advanced graduate

seminars, as well as a commitment to fully participate in departmental committees and governance. The

appointment begins 16 September 2019.

 a current curriculum vitae

 at least 3 letters of recommendation

 a statement of current and future research plans

 a statement of teaching philosophy and experience

 evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as course evaluations)

 a writing sample: either a published journal article or book chapter, or a dissertation chapter and abstract.
