[ecrea] fellowship to study in the Ph.D. program in Film and Moving Image Studies at Concordia University (Montreal)

    The Ph.D. Program in Film and Moving Image Studies at Concordia
    University (Montréal) is holding its annual competition to
    pre-select and submit the name of 1 Ph.D. applicant to the *Vanier
    Canada Graduate Scholarship Program* competition. *Students from all
    over the world are invited to apply*. The Vanier Canada Graduate
    Scholarships program was created to attract and retain *world-class
    doctoral students* and to establish Canada as a global centre of
    excellence in research and higher learning.

    *The Scholarship is worth $150,000 ($50,000 per year for a duration
    of 3 years) and is available to both Canadian and international PhD
    students*.

    *Students who enter our doctoral program with a Vanier Scholarship
    will also receive a Special Entrance Award worth $10,000.*

    Selection criteria are the following:

    ·*Academic excellence*, as demonstrated by past academic results and
    by transcripts, awards and distinctions.

    ·*Research potential*,**as demonstrated by the candidates research
    history, his/her interest in discovery, the proposed research and
    its potential contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the
    field, the potential benefit to Canadians (if applicable), and any
    anticipated outcomes.

    ·*Leadership* (potential and demonstrated ability): includes
    involvement in academic life (roles in academic/professional
    societies; organization of conferences, panels; mentoring/teaching;
    publishing, editing academic work; curating; etc.); civic
    engagement; personal achievement; community outreach/volunteerism;
    other)

    ·Candidates are expected to have familiarized themselves with the

    and with its eligibility and selection criteria

    _Candidates need to submit the following documents with their
    application_:

      * An updated CV
      * A copy of university transcripts (undergraduate and graduate,
        unofficial)
      * A leadership statement (description of leadership and
        communication skills, 1 page) detailing the impacts of your
        academic and non-academic activities/accomplishments, your
        leadership activities and why you judge yourself to be deserving
        of a Vanier CGS.
      * A program of research (2 pages) providing a detailed description
        of your proposed research/thesis project for the period during
        which you are to hold the Vanier CGS. Also indicate the name of
        1 or more potential supervisors among the Full-Time Film Studies
        Faculty at Concordia. Be as specific as possible with the
        research proposal. Provide background information to position
        your proposed research within the context of the current
        knowledge/debates in the field. State the objectives, hypothesis
        and research question. Outline the experimental or theoretical
        approach to be taken (citing literature pertinent to the
        proposal), the methods and procedures to be used and the
        contribution of the project to the advancement of knowledge.

    Please note: The leadership statement and research proposal must
    respect the following guidelines (_pages in excess of the number
    permitted will be removed_):

    ·Text must be single-spaced, with no more than six lines per inch.

    ·The acceptable font is Times New Roman (regular, minimum 12-pt.) or
    any comparable serif font.

    ·Condensed type is not acceptable.

    ·Set margins at a minimum of 2 cm (3/4 of an inch) all around.

    ·Use a left-justified, standard page layout.

    ·Include your name in the page header (on every page).

    *ELIGIBILITY:*

      * be pursuing your first doctoral degree;
      * intend to pursue, in the summer semester or the academic year
        following the announcement of results, full-time doctoral
        studies and research at the nominating institution;
      * not have completed more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of
        *May 1, 2018* (see calculating months of doctoral studies

        the Vanier Scholarship Website:

      * have achieved a first-class average, as determined by your
        institution, in each of the last two years of full-time study or
        equivalent. Candidates are encouraged to contact the institution
        for its definition of a first-class average; and
      * must not hold, or have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or
        fellowship from CIHR <http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/>, NSERC
        <http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/> or SSHRC
        <http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/> to undertake or complete a
        doctoral degree.
