Our strengths include interdisciplinary and international projects, many of which are focussed at MediaCityUK, a world class facility on a campus dedicated to broadcasting in all its forms and in close proximity to the Lowry and Imperial War Museum

This is an exciting time to join the School of Arts and Media as we plan our research agenda for the next five years and realise major investment in internationalisation. The School delivers a diverse range of UG and PG programmes which include media, design, music, performance, journalism, English, film studies, animation and the visual arts and works closely with high profile commercial and cultural partners. From a current base of around 4000 students we are expanding numbers and further developing our city campus with a total investment of £136m over the next two years.

The BA in Television and Radio is the largest programme in the School and is driving rapid expansion in the Media and Broadcast Directorate which itself enjoys an outstanding reputation for innovative, practice-based learning. We emphasise the integration of industry practice within the curriculum and inter-disciplinary project work relevant to employers in the media industries. This has helped our graduates gain careers across an impressive range of creative media organisations. Students on the BA (Hons),Television and Radio are learning contemporary technical and production programme making skills on the very latest industry standard equipment. They are working in a fully digital multi-platform media environment in partnership with key industry players such as the BBC, ITV, Avid and Adobe. They are also acquiring sophisticated and contemporary skills in media analysis and theory to complement the practical components of the programme, We are looking for a lecturer with a developing international research profile in media studies to join the team in delivering first class teaching in media theory to the programme makers of tomorrow. This position requires you to have a completed or near to completion PhD in media or a related field, ideally with a research specialisation in television or multi-platform media. We would like you to have a developing research and publication profile in media studies and the proven capacity to supervise research dissertations. Prior experience of teaching in HE is essential. We would like you to teach modules that critically examine media institutions, texts and audiences, with a specific focus on television within a multi-platform environment. We would especially welcome applicants with teaching experience in critical approaches to television and/or radio, television genres, alternative media and media institutions that show awareness of the convergent digital media landscape. The role will involve devising and delivering teaching sessions across a range of modules, assessing student work, supervising the student’s pastoral care, leading existing modules and contributing to the development of new research-led modules as the programme expands. You will be research active in media studies and keen to further develop your research and publication profile. You will also be interested in developing individual and/or collaborative research bids and to supervise PGR and participate fully in the School’s research culture. This is a fast moving, high profile media environment and there are plenty of opportunities for you to develop innovative and collaborative initiatives on a national and international stage. We need you to be organised, energetic and passionate about media research in a multi-platform environment and keen to embrace the varied opportunities that teaching on this large, flagship programme brings.
