SCRIPPS COLLEGE CLAREMONT, CALIFORNIA Hartley Burr Alexander Chair in
the Humanities Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a
strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications and nominations
for the Hartley Burr Alexander Chair in the Humanities. This
professorship is a tenured, senior position at the rank of full
professor open to distinguished scholars with an outstanding record of
scholarship and undergraduate teaching. The field of specialization is
open; the College is interested in scholars who take an
interdisciplinary and critical approach to the humanities. Candidates
must have a Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree in their field. The
teaching load for the Chair is four courses per year; participation in
the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities is expected. The
appointment to the Chair, which includes a research budget, is for an
initial ten-year period with the possibility of renewal. Applicants
