URSINUS COLLEGE invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant
Professor in Digital Journalism beginning Fall 2014. The Media &
Communication Studies Department seeks candidates with expertise in
on-line journalism and digital technologies as well as experience in
print and/or broadcast news and writing for the media. This new faculty
member will also be responsible for advising the /Grizzly/, our weekly
student run newspaper, which currently appears in both a print-and an
on-line edition. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. by the date of initial
appointment.
Applicants should have competencies in one or more areas of
specialization, which may include public affairs journalism,
environmental journalism, science journalism, civic journalism,
communication law and ethics, global news. The new hire will be
expected to teach at least one of the department's core courses for
majors such as Media and Society as well as the College's
interdisciplinary seminar for first year students, the Common
Intellectual Experience (CIE).
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in
teaching and research in a liberal arts setting, to mentor students in
undergraduate research projects, and to continue an on-going program of
scholarly or professional development. Our journalism courses are
taught in our Department's 20-station Mac Lab.* *Applicants should have
a broad vision of the role of journalism in support of the college's
liberal arts mission and will contribute to the continuing development
of the journalism sequence within the Media & Communication Studies
Department.
