Research Fellow (Fixed term 18 months at 0.5 time)

Reference: 326

Salary range: £30,424 to £36,298 pro rata per annum

Expected start date 1st November 2013 (or as close to this date as possible)



The School of Media Film and Music, University of Sussex are pleased to offer a part time Research Fellowship to work on ‘D.U.N Project’ (Defence, Uncertainty, ‘Now Media’: Mapping Social Media in Strategic Communications). The DUN Project is funded as part of the £2.1 million Science and Security Programme funded under the RCUK Global Uncertainties Programme. All research funded focuses on how the risks to defence and security that emerge from future developments in S&T can better be assessed and addressed and the influence of cultural, historical, ethical, economic and societal factors on how S&T is developed and utilised in future to present opportunities and threats for defence and security.



The project will use a range of qualitative research methods to interrogate the ways in which social is perceived, organized, managed and responded to by defence actors operating within the strategic environment. The successful applicant will lead identified parts of the project and offer support to all research activities led by Dr Maltby with Co-Investigator Dr Thornham (Leeds University). You will also engage in specific activities within the project including conducting research, analysis and interpretation of results, producing high quality publications and impact assessments.



The project work will be based in the School of Media Film and Music and the Centre for Material Digital Culture. The School and Centre are internationally renowned and the fellow will work in this context and contribute to this research culture.
