Lecturer in Global Journalism and Media (fixed-term, 17 months) - COVENTRY UNIVERSITY

An opportunity has arisen at COVENTRY UNIVERSITY for a fixed-term teaching staff in Journalism to cover a 17-month research secondment to another UK HEI, from November 2012 to April 2014. This opportunity in the Media Department is for a proactive individual who can demonstrate an ability to make a distinctive contribution to our research, practice and teaching in the fields of global /international journalism, global media and communications and new media and democratisation in international context.

Salary Range: Grade 7  (£30,123 – £37,014) – Full Time

Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 22 October 2012. The successful candidate must be able to take up the post on, or very shortly after, 12 November 2012. The post-holder should have specific interests in the following areas: i) Global/international journalism practice – especially events and subjects of global interest or from a global perspective for a national and/or global outlet; ii) journalism and media/communication theories/concepts, themes/issues/controversies/ethics in journalism; media and communication research methods, especially familiarity with textual analysis methods; and iii) journalism-society relations and tensions globally with a particular focus on new media and the developing-world regions such as Africa. Duties include: delivery of lectures and seminars; individual and group tutorials at BA and MA levels; module leadership; student assessment; contribution to course development. The post-holder will be a key member of our Specialist Journalism MA programme and will also contribute to our Communication, Culture and Media MA, so should preferably have a PhD in a relevant discipline. Evidence of interest in the impact of information and communication technologies in journalism/communication and on society would be an advantage as would experience of project/dissertation supervision.
