VENUE: Clephan Building, De Montfort University, Leicester, LE1 9BH

This conference, which is organised by the Media Discourse Group and supported by the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network, seeks to bring together PhD students from the international research community to discuss the mechanics of how we research Media Discourse.

The broad inter-disciplinary remit of Media Discourse, which encompasses a wide range of fields, from media studies, journalism and cultural studies to political science and international relations, means that there are an extensive variety of methodological approaches available. This can provide both challenges and opportunities in a swiftly changing media landscape.

The Media Discourse Group invites PhD researchers to submit proposals which explore methodological approaches through the use of case studies. We encourage submissions which focus on the application of the selected method/s to particular case studies, and which critically review the advantages and disadvantages of applying the method, and how we can deal with any challenges that may arise.

Suggested topics for papers include (but are not limited to):

- Online research methods.

- Critical Discourse Analysis.

- Historical approaches.

- Multimodal Analysis.

- Content Analysis.

- Ethnography.

- Participant Observation.

Potential contributors are invited to send a 250-word abstract and a title to (media.discourse /at/ dmu.ac.uk) <mailto:(media.discourse /at/ dmu.ac.uk)> by 3 September 2012.

Keynote speakers will be confirmed shortly. This is a free event and lunch and conference material will be provided.
