Assistant Professor of Communication and Journalism

The Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of 
Maine invites applications for a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track 
Assistant Professor of Communication and Journalism, beginning September 
1, 2012.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and 
graduate courses in journalism and mass communication, and developing a 
program of scholarship. Demonstrated ability to teach digital and 
multimedia journalism and courses in the journalism core is preferred. 
Active involvement in the department's graduate mission is expected. 
Duties also include undergraduate and graduate student advising, and 
department, college, university and professional service. Interest in 
obtaining extramural grants and collaborating with faculty in other 
academic disciplines on campus is desirable.

Requirements: A Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism or related field 
by appointment date is required. Evidence of successful research and 
teaching or demonstrated potential in these areas is required. 
Professional journalism experience is preferred.

Department: The Department of Communication and Journalism consists of 
ten faculty housed in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and offers 
B.A. degrees in Communication, Journalism, and Mass Communication. The 
department also offers a M.A. in Communication with Communication and 
Mass Communication sequences, and an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in 
Communication. There are 300 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate 
students. Located in Orono, Maine, the University of Maine is a Land 
Grant institution, enrolling 12,000 students, and is the flagship campus 
of the University of Maine System.
