The Faculty of Communication at the university of Lugano is seeking to
fill a tenure track position as ‘Assistant Professor in Online
Communication’.
Faculty Profile
The Faculty of Communication Sciences is characterized by a strong focus
on research and a commitment to high teaching standards. It offers a
young and dynamic context, highly international and interdisciplinary,
studying Communication from many complementary viewpoints, both when it
comes to disciplines as well as when it comes to application fields (for

Candidate profile
The candidate should have a background in Communication Sciences, or in
connected domains; s/he should also have a distinctive knowledge of
internet technologies.
Strong methodological competencies are requested, with evidence of clear
potential to publish in leading outlets.
Applicants pursuing research in any area of Online Communication will be
considered; those pursuing research in one of the following
contexts/areas are of particular interest: eLearning, eTourism, and
ICT4D. Since USI aims to increase the percentage of women in research
and teaching, female academics are particularly encouraged to apply.
Job description and responsibilities
The appointee will be expected:
• to promote research also in association with research programs funded
by the Swiss National Science Foundation and similar institutions
• to publish in national and international outlets
• to lecture and hold seminars, set examinations, to act in an advisory
capacity for a set number of tutorees
• to co-ordinate assistant’s activities and participate actively in the
work of the Faculty Council and related /ad-hoc /committees
Teaching load
The teaching load for assistant professors consists of an annual total
of 84 class hours.
Residence and language
The Assistant professor should reside in Ticino (Italian-speaking part
of Switzerland). The University’s graduate programs are mainly taught in
English, while Bachelor classes are taught in Italian. Fluency in
Italian, while beneficial, is not required in the first year.
Salary and contract
Offered salary is highly competitive. It is within a range to be defined
based on experience and qualifications. The terms of the contract are
defined by the University Statutes

relevant degree
• teaching and professional experience records (and evaluations/awards,
if available)
• copy of the 3 most representative publications or working papers

Deadline
Applications before 31.12.2011 are welcome; rolling interviews will be
conducted until position is filled. The University reserves the right to
appoint by invitation or not to make an appointment. Start date flexible
through 2012 and 2013.
