The Faculty of Information, more commonly known
as the iSchool, at the University of Toronto
invites applications for a tenure-stream
position in the area of communication at the
rank of Associate or Full Professor. The
appointment will commence on January 1, 2012.
Rank and salary will be competitive and
commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We seek candidates with demonstrated excellent
research and teaching abilities in one or more
areas of communication that are relevant to an
iSchool. Possible areas of focus include:
(i) communication and culture studies;
(ii) political economy of information/communication;
(iii) information/communication policy;
(iv) media literacy.
The candidate?s research should fit with and
extend the Faculty?s focus and mission.
The iSchool at the University of Toronto is a
research-led Faculty educating the next
generation of professional and academic leaders
in Information who join us in transforming
society through collaboration, innovation and
knowledge creation. The Faculty shares the
perspective that society's information practices
are being reconfigured and transformed by
material shifts in information/communication
infrastructures in conjunction with political
and cultural shifts in our attitudes toward
information as a socio-technical phenomenon,
raising significant ethical and policy challenges.
We seek an outstanding scholar with a proven
record of scholarship, experience with
multidisciplinary research, evidence of
excellence in teaching, and a PhD (or
equivalent). The candidate is expected to be
experienced in educating and mentoring graduate
students, junior researchers and/or
professionals. Experience in developing new
curricula at both the graduate and undergraduate levels would be an asset.
