PhD Studentships in the School of Media, Arts and Design at the University of Westminster

Media and Communication (CAMRI)

Up to 4 studentships are available to candidates with either H/EU or Overseas fee status.

CAMRI (the Communication and Media Research Institute) is the UKâ??s number one research group in media and communication as rated by the UK Governmentâ??s 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, with a score of 60% 4*, 30% 3*, 10% 2*. We have 25 research active staff and 50 PhD students. We have a wide and expanding range of research interests, including media economics and policy, media history, political communication, media audiences, questions of identity and media, new media, and international communication. We have established centres for the study of the media in China, India, the Arab world and Africa In the broadest sense we are interested in the social, economic, political and cultural significance of the media, and welcome proposals from prospective students on these or any other topic related to media and communication. Arts, Media and Cultural Criticism (CREAM)

Up to 4 studentships are available to candidates with either H/EU or Overseas fee status.

The Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM) is a leading centre for research across the disciplines of visual arts, photography, film and digital media. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise CREAM was rated 20% 4*, 55% , 25% 2* . The Times Higher Education Supplement ranked CREAM in the top six art and design departments in the UK and the most highly rated department in this field in London.

With 30 research active staff, and 30 doctoral students. CREAM is a leading provider of both practice-based and theoretical PhD research in visual art, photography, film, digital media and moving image work. The research practices of its members cover a broad field including ceramics, visual arts, digital art, arts-science relationships, film, photography, music, and theoretical and critical writing.
