JOB OPENINGS PhD STUDENTSHIPS & RESEARCHERS
within the research domain ?New Media & ICT?

Within the IBBT research group MICT (Media & ICT), affiliated to the Department of Communication Sciences of Ghent University, there are several vacancies for full-time researchers in the context of interdisciplinary research projects on new media and ICT.

PhD STUDENTSHIPS (max. 1 year working experience)
Job description:
- Conducting research on user expectations, requirements and experiences within the
scope of one or more of the following IBBT projects: GreenWeCan, 3DTV 2.0,
Telesurgery, xTV en SPARC (for more information about these projects, go to

The focus in these projects is mainly on latest trends in TV (e.g. 3D, omnidirectional)
and network technologies (e.g. FTTH, wireless, greenIT).
- Conducting qualitative and/or quantitative user research with a critical and scientific
attitude.
- Active participation in meetings.
- Contributing to/writing of reports and scientific publications.
- Working with external colleagues in an interdisciplinary team, working together with
clients and external partners.
- Supporting general services of the department.
Profile:
- Master in Communication sciences, Sociology, Psychology, Pedagogical sciences, Economy, Statistics, Marketing analysis or ManaMa in quantitative techniques and/or
experience with these techniques.
- Starter (= a maximum of 12 months on work experience).
- Good knowledge of methods for social scientific research in general and of user
research in particular is recommended.
- Affinity with new media & ICT.
- Good (academic) writing skills and a thorough knowledge of (academic) English.
- Academic degrees are an advantage.
- Team player.

RESEARCHERS (min. 2 years working experience)
Job description:
- Conducting research on user expectations, requirements and experiences within the scope of one or more of the following IBBT projects: GreenWeCan, 3DTV 2.0 en SMIF

- Supporting general services of the department.
Profile:
- Preferably Master in Communication sciences, Sociology, Psychology, Pedagogical
sciences, Economy, Statistics, Marketing analysis or ManaMa in quantitative
techniques and/or experience with these techniques.
- At least 24 months of work experience.
- Good knowledge of methods for social scientific research in general and of user
research in particular is recommended.
- Affinity with new media & ICT.
- Good (academic) writing skills and a thorough knowledge of (academic) English.
- Academic degrees are an advantage.
- Team player.
