POSITION DESCRIPTION

(FINE ARTS & COMMUNICATION / THEATRE, DANCE & MEDIA STUDIES):

Acting & Directing

Assistant Professor





This position is a regular term (nine-month) tenure-track appointment as
assistant professor in the Department of Theatre, Dance and Media
Studies in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University
of Missouri-St. Louis.  The primary purpose of this position is teaching
courses in acting, researching and directing plays.  This position will
teach a minimum of three classes per semester as determined by the
department chair.  This position requires a commitment to working with
diverse student and community populations.



Essential tasks that must be performed:

Ø  Teaching undergraduate courses in acting and directing.

Ø  Directing at least one mainstage production per semester

Ø  Coordinating the student theatre organization

Ø  Recruitment of Students into acting and directing.

Ø  Produce research and/or creative work





This position requires the holder to have at least an MFA, a Ph.D. or an
equivalent terminal degree.  Teaching experience at the undergraduate
level will be considered favorably.  Professional experience and
expertise in a variety of acting methods and styles is also desired.



The holder of this position will be provided with a desktop computer,
Internet access, and campus e-mail and access to a printer.  The
assistant professor will need to maintain a regular schedule of open
office hours and hours by appointment.



As faculty, the holder of this position must have ability assimilate
information, reason well, and to conduct classes in such a way that
students are engaged and students' work is monitored effectively as
measured on student and peer evaluations.  The holder of this position
will be expected to perform these duties in a professional manner and to
abide by the Collected Rules and Regulations of the University Systems.
This holder of this position reports directly to the Chair of
Department. Tenure-track faculty receive, upon the recommendation of
their department chair, deans and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs,
a series of one-year appointments.  All untenured regular faculty
members are reviewed on teaching, research and service annually by the
appropriate Unit Committee regarding their progress toward tenure.  A
comprehensive performance review by the Unit Committee will be conducted
at the midpoint of the probationary period.
