Lecturer in Anthropology (Full-time/Non-tenure track)

Description: The Media, Society, and the Arts (MSA) program at Purchase College seeks an anthropologist with interest and inter-disciplinary training in media studies for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer position for 2009-2010. MSA is part of the School of Natural and Social Sciences and focuses on the study of media from multidisciplinary perspectives as well as arts practice. The teaching load is 4 course equivalences per semester. (Advising responsibilities and senior thesis mentoring are calculated in that load). Courses include core offerings such as Introduction to MSA, and intermediate and upper level offerings on visual and ethnographic theories and methods, and project-based media and arts. Geographic area is open but we are particularly interested in candidates with fieldwork experience in East Asia, Japan, or South America or areas that complement existing faculty expertise in the MSA program. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in anthropology or a related discipline by the time of appointment.
Salary:  $40,000  (Subject to budgetary approval)

Start Date:  September 1, 2009
