*OVERVIEW*

The 32nd edition of Contratexto will address the present and future of media education in Ibero-America, as well as its state of development and the challenges it presents. Media education concerns the role of traditional and new media as a subject matter. It is not limited to the role of ICTs as teaching tools, it is also about learning to use them.

This issue will highlight the importance of media education from a broad perspective, within a framework of growing interest in the topic. We are particularly interested in learning about new experiences and initiatives worked in the formal, non-formal and informal areas, corresponding to any educational level and aimed at different ages of social groups. Furthermore, we welcome the analysis of new practices and trends where educational and media processes converge; the use of traditional or digital media in learning contexts, the application of games or mobile devices with educational ends, the growth of self-learning and participative communities (i.e. fan-fiction writers and readers or gamers), the production of user-generated educational contents, the barriers and opportunities towards developing critical capabilities, as well as theory and epistemological debates pertaining these subjects.
