[Commlist] Autoethnography LibGuide

Sat Aug 08 08:22:20 GMT 2026

Many of us have been excited to see the growth of autoethnography across so many disciplines, yet we often comment on the lack of accessible training beyond traditional books and journal articles. To help address this, Aaron Hoy has worked with colleagues at Minnesota State University, Mankato to develop a freely available Autoethnography LibGuide:

*_https://libguides.mnsu.edu/autoethnography_* <https://libguides.mnsu.edu/autoethnography>

It includes sections on:

  *

    Definitions, history, and major approaches

  *
    Developing topics and research questions
  *
    Data sources, analysis, and ethics
  *
    Narrative, poetic, and arts-based forms
  *
    Evaluating autoethnographic work
  *
Journals, conferences, organizations, and other resources

The guide is intended to support students, faculty, practitioners, artists, independent scholars, and others who are interested in learning about autoethnography as a method, practice, and form of representation. With many of us preparing for fall courses and student mentoring, we hope the guide is also useful for introducing others to autoethnography.
