Job Vacancy: Assistant Professor in Film and Media Studies (Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Türkiye)

Boğaziçi University's Institute of Film and Media Studies invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Institute welcomes applications from outstanding scholars working across the broad field of Film and Media Studies. While the search is open with regard to specialisation, particular interest will be given to candidates with strong research and teaching profiles in one or more of the following areas:

* Film and Moving Image Studies
* Animation Studies
* Global Screen Cultures
* New Media and Digital Cultures
* Game Studies
* Contemporary Media Arts
* Sound Studies
* Curatorial Studies (Film and Media Arts)

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, curriculum development, student supervision, and the Institute's research activities. The position also involves active participation in the academic and intellectual life of the Institute and the University.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Film Studies, Media Studies, Visual Culture, Digital Cultures, Game Studies, Contemporary Media Arts, Sound Studies, or a closely related discipline. Candidates should demonstrate an excellent record of research and publication, experience in university teaching, and the ability to teach in English.

Preference will be given to candidates with postdoctoral experience, an established international research profile, success in attracting research funding, experience of interdisciplinary collaboration, and strong international academic networks.

About the Institute

Established in 2024, the Institute of Film and Media Studies at Boğaziçi University is developing Türkiye's first English-language graduate programmes in Film and Media Studies within a public university. Its teaching and research encompass film and moving image studies, animation, global screen cultures, digital cultures, game studies, contemporary media arts, sound studies, and curatorial studies. The Institute will initially offer a master’s programme, with plans to expand into doctoral studies in the coming years. It also hosts an undergraduate-level Certificate Programme in Film Studies, offering historical, theoretical, and practical courses. The Institute is committed to internationally recognised research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and excellence in teaching.
