[Commlist] Amplification and Everyday Life conference

Sun May 17 21:28:21 GMT 2026

Free registration is open now for the Amplification and Everyday Life conference, soon to be held at the University of Huddersfield on 4-5 June 2026:

https://amplification.eventbrite.co.uk/

You can get tickets for individual days or if you would like to attend the whole conference, please add tickets for both days to your cart.

Hosted by the Amplification Project, this conference explores key issues and debates around amplification.

The Amplification Project is a £5 million Leverhulme Trust-funded research project at the University of Huddersfield and is the first large-scale research project dedicated to the study of amplification. More than a way to make things louder, amplification has contributed to the increased ubiquity of recorded sound in everyday life and has afforded new mechanisms for controlling sound or using sound as a medium for social control. This two-day conference will help to identify and define key issues and debates that are of core importance to the topic and will advance our mission to make amplification into a key subject in the cultural study of music and sound.

The conference will take place in Bronte Lecture Theatres, Lecture Theatre 1 (BLG/05), Ground Floor.

Unearthed
--------------------

On the evening of Thursday 4th June, we are hosting an exciting series of performances and installations presented by Yorkshire Sound Women Network. Unearthed features Yorkshire-based artists who were selected through an open callout by Yorkshire Sound Women Network (YSWN) to create new electronic work for performance or installation. From the intimate to the expansive, each piece here invites us to perceive and reflect upon our world at a heightened level.

Unearthed will take place in the Richard Steinitz Building.

Tickets for 'Unearthed' must be acquired separately. Please visit: https://unearthedyswn.eventbrite.co.uk/
