Call for papers: Advances of AI in media and communication

Artificial intelligence (AI) has in many sectors affecting the way we live, work and communicate. The popularity of AI was facilitated by industry 4.0 technologies that, are not limited to, big data and cloud/edge computing. The aforementioned technologies have facilitated the continuous improvement of AI algorithms which accuracy exceeded human intelligence in many sectors. Mainstream and social media have contributed enormously to the generation and sharing of big data across geographical boundaries in an eco-friendly, timesaving, cost-effective and sustainable approach.

This special issue highlights how AI can be used to advance media and communication sector in an economic way. We welcome submissions that discuss using AI and technological tools in mainstream media, social media, audiovisual media, advertising, film-making, cinema and exhibitions. It also examines media discourse and public debates on AI, and critically explores AI's role in shaping the information environment. In line with the evolving landscape of AI in media and communication, we encourage submissions from researchers addressing:

o Augmented and virtual reality in cinema
o Human-AI collaboration in co-creating media content
o Data mining of mainstream media and/or social media
o Machines learning and deep learning for understanding fake news
o AI for creating adverts
o Agentic AI in media and communication o Robotics in films and cinema
o News Media Coverage of AI advances and developments
o The role of AI in information dissemination and disinformation
o The Impact of AI on newsroom practices
o Audience perceptions of the use of AI tools in the media sector
o Ethical and regulatory considerations related to AI adoption in media
o Methodological innovations in using AI
o Ethnographic insights of AI integration in our lives

Additionally, we welcome articles that delve into both the theoretical and practical dimensions of AI, such as 'Natural Language Processing: Leveraging GPT-based Natural Language Processing (NLP) Models' and 'AI-Enhanced Interactions via GPT-Powered Chatbots.
